Anjali Verma: First-Week Interventions in the Classroom

About the Seminar

Anjali Verma describes current approaches to teaching recitations in 1400-level courses, which seek to encourage building collaborative environments in the classroom that are welcoming to all students. Her work with undergraduate physics pedagogy in collaboration with the TEAM-UP Task Force aims to address inequities in physics education at the early stages as they align with the 5 TEAM-UP factors: belonging, physics identity, academic support, personal support and structural changes. In this discussion, she will also challenge instructors and TAs to think about how to incorporate these ideas into their own classrooms, and engage students to do their own part in creating positive learning environments for all.
