Please join us for the first event in the Career Initiative for Women in Physics on Thursday, March 3rd from 1-2 pm in the Rabi Room on the 8th floor of Pupin for an informal discussion about navigating career paths with Columbia Physics alumna Dr. Britt Reichborn-Kjennerud. This event will be held in person and lunch will be provided.

Career Initiative for Women in Physics: We are launching this student- and postdoc-run initiative focused on career development for women in physics to:

  • Foster a supportive community within the Columbia Physics Department

  • Create opportunities for students and postdocs to interact with successful female physicist role models

  • Learn about different career trajectories possible with an advanced degree in physics

  • Learn tools & strategies for successful career growth

Our guest: Dr. Britt Reichborn-Kjennerud completed her Ph.D. on measuring the polarization of the cosmic microwave background in 2010, and is now the section manager of electric vehicles at Con Edison, where she has worked on a variety of projects related to energy generation, storage, and distribution.

We will discuss Britt's career in the energy sector, the factors that influenced her trajectory, and more generally how to make career-related decisions and shape our careers starting from the point of a Ph.D. in physics.

Everyone is welcome. We especially encourage folks from underrepresented identities to join us. Come meet Britt and your fellow physicists!
